*The Boxes Font is only compatible with Windows.
Children love writing in boxes! The Boxes Font is a set of six fonts to create visual support for letter and word shapes. A valuable support for spelling activities, phonemic awareness, cloze passages, modern languages etc. Includes punctuation and European accents. Can be colored and formatted like any other font. The Boxes Font enables you to create sound boxes directly from your keyboard, with a box tailored uniquely to each letter: upper and lower case, letters with risers and descenders, a dot for j and i.
You can use Boxes Font with any software that accesses your font file
It Includes:
- Boxes with letters for spelling clues
- Empty boxes for writing in
- Boxes for cursive writing
- Our own child-friendly font, with point size compatible with boxes.
- Colored boxes
- You can use the different boxes fonts together, for color-coding, spelling clues etc.
Use The Boxes Font for...
Spelling activities.
Use Boxes Colored to create your own color-coding for vowels, vowel teams etc and help your students work out the correct spellings.
Use Boxes Letters to fill in some letters in words and leave others blank. Just type the word(s) in Boxes Regular, (or type it in you normal font first to make sure you haven’t made any errors, then change it to Boxes!), then highlight the letter(s) you want to reveal and change them from your font drop-down to Boxes Letters.
“Box” Dictations
Create “boxes” versions of your dictation passages. The boxes provide great support for the encoding process.
Tip! Put a colored overlay over the activity sheet (if your student has visual stress and you know their color, this will help anyway), and have the child write on the sheet with a dry-erase marker. This will enable them to make changes to their spellings until they are satisfied with what they have written
Quizzes
For any quiz you do in any curriculum area, you can use the Boxes Font to prompt the correct answer - either by just giving all the answer in Boxes Regular for them to work out, or providing additional clues with Boxes Letters as mentioned above.
Handwriting
Use Boxes Open to create handwriting activity sheets that will provide visual support for childrens’ letter formation.
